Blur’s Television Pitch

Blur
Activision has given a subtle advertising push in setting up Blur as the bigboy racer of 2010. I was really hoping for something a little more extreme, like a Mustang raising a tire to squirt oil on Wii consoles or something, but I guess this will do.

The reason I’m posting it is because the spot is a rarity. Industry “interviews” might grab for trash talking new bits by the hour, but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen an advertising comparison pitching a game in opposition to another – I assumed we’d left that to soap companies.

Bizarre Creations’ game hits shelves next week, where it will fight to convince me to take a break from Split/Second, which I’m slacking at reporting has done away with plenty of my concerns from the demo, and has become part of one of the most legitimately fun weeks I’ve had with new releases in quite awhile.

Catch the spot for Blur after the break.

    I know nothing of Blur, but is it supposed to be like Split/Second? I’d rather play Split/Second just based on the fact it isn’t published by Activision alone. ;)

      Blur really is an attempt at adult-izing Mario Kart – race around the track, grab power-ups, nuke friends etc. It’s not without its charms, racing 20 other people was fun for a bit.

      Other than being a racing game with good competitive multiplayer, I don’t see it as similar to split/second, especially playing through split this week – though that doesn’t change the fact that those two games are natural competitors on the store shelf.

        I wasn’t aware you needed to “adultize” a game bought by millions of people of which a very large portion are adults. My Dad and older sister both own and thoroughly enjoy it so really the thinking at the very core of their product is likely flawed. Mario Kart is fine the way it is, or at least 22+ million people seem to think so.

    Well, if it’s Mario Kart with regular cars then what’s the novelty?

    @Dakaggo I agree completely.
