Bayonetta Break

Two days in, and this is already feeling like one of the most stressful weeks I’ve come across since deciding the industry was an interesting place to loiter. While I sort out some implications emerging from that statement, let’s enjoy something completely different.

Pictured above, and in complete form after the break, artist junkboy’s vision of Bayonetta if it were a shmup, which I would completely tune out the world to play right now.

I’d definitely buy a Bayonetta shooter on PSN. Haters say it’s to close to Devil May Cry 4, but they sure didn’t complain about all the games that were platformers like Super Mario Bros back in the day. Just because a game is in a similar genre doesn’t make it the exact same game.

I’ve been in the process for a couple weeks now, since I’d originally seen this image, of working on a design doc & coding some tests on a DS version of this. Once I get something worth showing I plan on asking junkboy if he’d be willing to let me use his sprites and work on this with me. Most of those sprites need to be reworked into friendly sizes (which I started to do already…) I just can’t decide if it would work better as a straight up Shmup or if Bayonetta should be able to jump from platform to platform as some kind of Metal Slug/Shmup mashup?

Seriously? Drop me an email, I would love to talk with you about the idea more.
