Details about Nintendo’s landslide of news today rolls on, and information about Metroid: Other M’s controls is worth first mention. Samus’ exploration of a derelict space station will apparently allow players to switch between 2D and 3D perspectives, and get this, players will hold the WiiMote sideways to explore and battle in classic Metroid style, and also aim at the screen to play in first-person mode. Exactly how this plays out, primarily whether there is a real switch or if certain segments are assigned one perspective or the other is the missing link we hope to have an answer to asap.
Elsewhere Nintendo’s Photo Dojo offers up a side-scrolling fighter where players pose for pictures and input sound effects to put themselves and others in the game, which potentially means that the guy following you with a DSi in the near future may just want to kick your ass rather than creep on you.
In other news the North American debut of the DSi XL is set for March 28, Nintendo will be publishing Square-Enix’s Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, Sin and Punishment 2’s new extended title is Star Successor, Indie title And Yet It Moves has to live with Spring as a vague release date, and typing the word Nintendo this many times in one day has crippled my fingers.
Sin and Punishment, Metroid: Another M and Super Mario Galaxy 2 all available before June is over… wow, my wallet just got murdered.
Yea, I’m still really surprised by that many titles in such a short window. New handheld for xmas?
Nah, I don’t see a DS 2 or anything like that this year. The DSi and the DSi XL are selling really well and the XL hasn’t been released in Europe or the Americas. It’s not like when the Micro (which I own and love… Famicom Limited Edition!) was released and it almost tanked a couple of months later. If the XL is doing 20-25k a week in Japan then it has a go at 50-100k a week in Europe and the Americas and you never say no to easy money. Releasing a DS2, releasing DETAILS about the existence of a DS2 at E3 THIS year would be wrong and kill any holiday sales for the DSi and XL. Talk about the DS2 at E3 2011 for a holiday release of 2011 or save it for Tokio GAme Show and release on March 2012 and let all the happy supporters who got a DSi or an XL enjoy the handheld for a while.
I owned a DS at launch, changed to a Lite at launch and did the same for a DSi… but that’s it. Since I’ve spent $70 on DSiware my DSi isn’t going anywhere unless I can transfer my saves, games and accounts into a new console…
I still rock my O.G. DS, the others didn’t offer me anything better. I’d like to pickup a Micro someday though… or maybe a second gen SP with the brighter screen, I have that NES SP version. Luckily the only game I’m planning on buying full price is Sin & Punishment 2 (even though I own the Japanese version, and probably nothing has changed except for the English)
A Micro is the best way to enjoy GBA games. The screen might be smaller, but the QUALITY of the screen and lighting of it make GBA games just… pop. Might have something to do with 2D sprites and the way the Micro lights the screen. I got my Famicom Micro at full retail and have never “regreted” (as everyone seems to say when speaking of the Micro) my purchase. Still use it to this day (I’m playing Sigma Star Saga right now).
